You’ve been told to build your list with an opt-in gift. And it’s growing slower than a snail’s pace.
Why?
Because you are bombarded with tons of information each and every day. According to a University of California study, we take in more than 34 gigabytes of information per day. Note that this study was completed in 2009, and as technology continues to increase, it’s probably more now. It’s no wonder that the term “information overload” was coined.
To stay sane, and to be able to process information, people are getting pickier and picker. They are getting picky about what type of information they want to consume and by whom.
The good news is that they landed on your website, so they are interested in what you have to offer. They will not stay on your website forever. They will forget all about you once they leave because they are face to face with more information to digest. Therefore, you want to capture their information with an irresistible opt-in gift to build your list.
It must be something that strikes an emotional cord. It should also have real value. Most importantly, your opt-in gift should relate to the reason they visited your site in the first place. Your opt-in gift must promise to solve an urgent problem. It should help them get unstuck or achieve a highly desired goal.
" When you are creating your opt-in gift, do so with a heart of giving and of service." ~ Cindy J Holbrook, The Visibility Wiz Share on XWhen it comes across as “I’ll do something for you if you do something for me,” it devalues the opt-in gift.
9 Irresistible Opt-In Gift Ideas to Build Your List
1) Audio:
Give away a recording of someone interviewing you, or of an expert that you interviewed. You can also give away part of a program that you taught. Other audio ideas include short meditations, songs or affirmations.
2) Cheat Sheets:
These are typically one to two pages that outline the specific steps to get a result. “How to build a list of raving fans,” is a good idea for a cheat sheet. You can also create a list of resources one would need to get a particular job completed. Something like, “Resources You’ll need to build a list of raving fans.” A cheat sheet could also be in the form of an infographic.
3) Checklists or Trackers:
Checklists simply state all the steps one must complete to perform a specific task.
Examples include, “Checklist to build a Facebook group full of your ideal clients.” People love checklists and they are EASY to create!
Trackers, allow a person to track weight loss, sales conversion, exercises etc. These can also be very easy to create. I suggest that you add room for “notes” on both checklists and trackers.
4) Contests or Challenges:
This is a fun way to build your list. You can also build Facebook fans with them. Your goal is to build your list of ideal clients. Therefore, I believe that your contest and challenges need to be related to your niche. You can have them sign up to your list and get part of the information via email, with other parts inside of your Facebook group.
5) eBooks:
You can create a short eBook (10 to 20 pages) that lists something your community would be interested in. Such as, “101 tips to be visible online,” “7 Money Myths that keep you broke,” “3 Mistakes to avoid when meeting men online,” or “4 little-known truths about writing a best-seller.”
6) Email Series:
An email series is very similar to eBooks. The difference is, you are delivering small chunks of information over a set period of time. This could be something like, “7 days to build your confidence,” “7 steps to grow your list,” or “7 ways to meditate.”
7) Quizzes:
Quizzes could be a big hit if your ideal market is women. Women like to take quizzes to determine where they are in all areas of their lives. There are many good businesses out there that will allow you to create awesome quizzes, and then email the results to your new subscriber.
