I stood in front of 5,000 people explaining how I became a Tupperware manager in only five weeks. I shared how I asked everyone to throw a party and/or become a salesperson. I discounted the “No’s” because I understood the law of averages. I knew if I asked enough people, I would get enough yeses.
This was back in the early 80s, and I had to sell $2,000 of Tupperware myself, recruit five people, and together have $5,000 in sales. These numbers didn’t daunt me.
How did I succeed?
Looking back I understand that I was very clear on my why and what I wanted. Tupperware gave its managers a car and paid for everything except gas. This was super exciting to me as my husband and I were sharing a small Chevy Luv pick-up with two small children and I was willing to do anything to get that car and succeed.
Here’s your proven blueprint to achieve results:
- Know Your Why
Make it as personal as you can. The more personal it is, the more it will excite you and keep you motivated when things get hard. - Limit Your Goals
Three seems to be the magic number. Have three big goals for the year. Break these down to three goals, per month, then week, then day. It’s easy to achieve three daily goals. If you have a to-do list of ten things, you feel overwhelmed before you start, and then probably beat yourself up for not achieving them. Each of your daily goals will be actions that will help you achieve your big yearly goals. - Focus on Your Habits
Remember will-power in of itself does not exist. In order to achieve your desired outcome, it is imperative to change your daily habits. A habit is just an action that you take consistently. Your entire life is made up of habits. What habits do you want to develop? It could be doing a daily Facebook live, being consistent with blog posts, social media, spending 30 minutes a day looking for speaking opportunities, or meditating each morning. - Work on Your Mindset
To succeed you’ll need to weed out your mind of any beliefs that may be keeping you from achieving results. Identify who you need to be to achieve the results you desire. You can do this with a mentor, or brainstorm what others do that are where you want to go. - Calendar It
Put your action steps on your calendar and remember that you are your #1 client. If you’re determined to succeed, don’t break the time you have blocked off unless you have a personal emergency. Treat the time you have blocked to achieve your goals as sacred. - Create a Results Statement
“What you do today will affect you 90 days from now.” ~ Johnnie Urban.
Work in 90-day increments. At the beginning of each quarter, write a “results statement.” Write it in the present tense and list proof that you have received it.
Sample Result Statements:
Today is April 1. I have achieved signing up five new clients and brought in over $25,000 in income. I achieved these results by doing three Facebook lives each week, holding monthly challenges, and asking for the sale. Proof I have achieved these results is that I am currently coaching new clients, and have reviewed my bank statements. I’m ecstatic at achieving these results. - Read your results statement daily and take a few minutes to visualize the desired outcome.
