To have a successful online business you need to break free from mental roadblocks to visibility.
You know that in order to get clients and share your genius with the world, you need to be visible. However, those voices in your head – your inner gremlins – are keeping you stuck. These are your mental roadblocks to visibility.
Your inner gremlins say things like:
- I need to spend a whole lot of money to be seen online
- Posting on social media doesn’t give me leads
- I have no idea what to talk about on social media or video
- I’ve built a tribe of people who love me that do not convert
- Do I really have anything that people would be interested in
- How do I get known as an expert in my new field
- I am afraid of making a fatal mistake and killing my business before it starts
- It’s going to take too long and too much of my time
- I’ll be found out as a fraud
- I don’t know where to start
What is the underlying roadblock to visibility from your inner gremlins?
It’s FEAR
“Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.” ~ Dan Brown
You might say, “I’m not afraid of being seen and being visible everywhere.”
While that may be true there, fear is still the mental roadblock to visibility online, and it’s preventing you from having the success you deserve and desire.
What is it that you are afraid of?
- Running out of money
- Wasting your time
- People calling you a fraud
- Making mistakes
- Being made fun of
- Rejection
- Not succeeding (Which is probably the granddaddy of them all!)
In Psychology Today, Ti Caine states, “The fear of success is a very unique issue that arises when you are genuinely creating change and moving forward in your life,” This is such a powerful statement! Think about it, you are genuinely creating change, not only in your own life but of those you are meant to share your genius with.
Becoming visible online can almost seem as scary as those dreams where you are running down the street naked. Simply, because you are exposing yourself to millions of people. Your ego wants to keep you safe from harm, therefore it sabotages your success through the voice of those darned inner gremlins!
“Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free.” ~ Jim Morrison
Here are 7 Steps to break free from mental roadblocks to visibility:
- Acknowledge the fear. Do not try to run away from it because that just makes it stronger.
- Be OK with your critics. You were not put on earth to serve the whole world, so not everyone will resonate with your message. When you release them to find mentors they can connect with, you are also setting yourself free to find your ideal clients.
- Accept the fact that you are human and you will make mistakes.
4. No mistake is fatal – it’s just a lie we tell ourselves. I was on Huffington Post Live twice. One time, they misquoted me as saying something that totally went against my values. I thought that my career as a coach was over … that was in 2013 and I am still standing, stronger than ever. Sure, I had some wounds to lick, but I came out of it stronger and better.
5. Write down a compelling list of reasons why you will succeed. Read them as often as you need to.
6. Develop a visibility plan for yourself. Start with one small step. Know that it will take time. Decide that you will enjoy the journey, with faith that your business will grow with every single baby step you take.
7. Heed the advice of Eleanor Roosevelt, “Do one thing every day that scares you.” This will build your confidence and your business! Think about the things you have done that you were afraid of. How many of them were actually as bad as what you thought? Probably not many of them, if any.
Print out the quote below …
Read it every day, preferably just before you do things that scare you.
When you break free from mental roadblocks to visibility, you will notice that your confidence grows and you start getting new clients – almost out of nowhere.
