Think of a skill that you feel confident in. It could be driving a car, playing a particular sport or musical instrument, or something to do with your business.
What was your confidence level performing that task the first time you attempted it?
You were probably nervous. However, you had an inner drive that pushed you to keep on practicing because you wanted to succeed at this skill.
Let me ask you, do you have that same inner drive pushing you toward business success?
If the answer is YES, start doing and you are on your way to outrageous confidence in your business success.
It’s perfectly A-OK that you don’t know what you don’t know. Relax and be confident in the fact that you can and will learn what you need to know in perfect timing.
The more you practice a certain skill – The more outrageous CONFIDENCE you will have!
Your mindset is the KEY ingredient to your business success.
There are TWO things that wreak havoc with your confidence, Naysayers and Inner Gremlins:
The Naysayers …. We all know them and most of us have them in our families.
These are family members, friends, and acquaintances that tell you how you should run your business.
The naysayers tell you what you are doing wrong, and some may even tell you that you will never succeed. I had a family member/naysayer tell me I was stupid for writing my book, Overcoming DARK Family Secrets.
The naysayers tell you to dress differently, act professionally or speak properly. They want you to fit into a certain mold.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to plug your ears and ignore them? (but you still hear -even though you don’t want to.)
Years ago, at a business event, I overheard someone gossiping about one of the attendees that had purple hair. She said this gal would never succeed.
The purple-haired girl, continually went to the mike to share her experiences and ask questions.
The gal did succeed BIG time, simply because she was being true to herself and her goals and had decided not to listen to the naysayers. She put herself out there.
You have a switch in your brain, Accept and Reject.
You get to choose what you will accept to believe as your truth, as well as what to reject. When you choose to reject what another person is saying to you, there is no need to argue with them or try to get them to see your point. This just drains your energy.
Just say to them, “Thank you for your opinion, I’ll take it into consideration.”
This simple statement makes your family member or friend feel heard and usually saves you hours of frustration while trying to explain yourself. It’s a Win-Win!
Your inner gremlins are simply the voices in your head.
What are those pesky inner gremlins saying to you?
We ALL have them. They can be very loud and demanding. They say things like:
- Who are you to teach someone else on this subject?
- No one is going to listen to you
- It is going to be extremely hard and take forever to succeed
- There is way too much competition
- You have nothing new to say
- Be sure that everything is perfect before you put it out there
- You need to portray a picture-perfect life in order to be considered credible
It is exhausting to listen to them!
Make friends with your inner gremlins.
They will never go away. Consider your inner gremlins to be like those friends and family members that insist they know everything. You learn to co-exist in peace and harmony.
The GOOD NEWS is that you can quiet the inner gremlins so that they are whispering rather than shouting.
We have all had thoughts that attempt to make us believe that we are not worthy, smart enough, pretty enough or whatever enough …
These thoughts are NOT true!
You remain stuck when you believe what the inner gremlins are saying. These are limiting beliefs that prevent you from acting on your goals, desires, and dreams.
They may even convince you that you are happy where you’re at and that you do not need what your heart desires.
This prevents you from living your dreams, and creating a life of your choosing, because they keep you in your comfy (or not so comfy) box.
Tell your inner gremlins the same thing you say to the naysayers ….
“Thanks for sharing your opinion.”
Let the thought pass and choose to not let it become your belief. Continue to take the actions you feel inspired to take in order to succeed in life and in business.
You might say, wait a minute Cindy J., there are numerous quotes by the wise ones that state we are our thoughts.
You are what you focus on! The fact is, you get to choose what thoughts to believe and you get to choose what thoughts to focus on. Without a conscious choice to let the gremlin thoughts float by like the clouds in the sky, very little will change in your life.
Challenge yourself to do something every day that scares the pants off you and you’ll soon develop outrageous confidence to succeed!
