Many small business owners feel completely overwhelmed at the thought of becoming visible online. They think they need to be everywhere at once or they have no clue where to start.
If this sounds like you, these steps to overcome overwhelm will help to get you on the right path.
There are hundreds of ways that you can become visible online to attract your ideal clients and make more money. Logically, you know that you cannot do them all. Typically, you stay stuck simply because you are resisting taking action
Also, what happens to your body? You feel anxious, uncomfortable, stressed, and doubtful. All of these emotions fall under one category – FEAR is the culprit. However, you can break free from fear.
When you are overwhelmed, it’s just like having one foot on the gas pedal and the other on the gas. It’s not going to get you very far and just cause a lot of damage to the engine (you!)
Here are Four Steps to Overcome Overwhelm
1) Take a Breather:
I know it sounds counter-productive, however, when your mind is going a thousand miles a minute, you are not really being productive anyway. You are simply spinning your wheels getting now where. Try some deep breathing for 3 to 5 minutes, or take a short walk. You can go get a glass of water, or do ten jumping jacks. Just get your mind slow down a bit.
2) Do a Brain Dump:
Write a list of everything that you want to get done. Often times, just the act of writing down everything you need or want to do will ease your mind. Remember this is NOT a to-do list.
3)Take Stock:
Look over the list and see if you can delegate any of the tasks. If so, delegate. This may be hard if you are a control freak, and want everything done to your perception of perfectionism.
4) Decide:
Choose three two or three things to focus on that day. Many business owners are in overwhelm, because they have lists with 10, 20 or even 50 things to do in a day. This is just setting you up for failure from the get-go. Be realistic. Once you complete the three actions, if you still have a lot of the day left you can choose a couple more actions to take.
Alternate Plan: Three Steps to Overcome Overwhelm
1. Make a list of everything you want to accomplish.
2. Ask yourself how important this action is to your business and if you enjoying taking the action.
3. Do it, Delegate it or trash it depending on your answer above.
Overwhelm is just a state of mind, that everything needs to do right this moment. Let it go, and remind yourself that you get more accomplished when you feel at peace. Choose your favorite steps to overcome overwhelm and then start taking action, because that in of itself will make you feel productive and on track.
